About Scott Composite Squadron is located with Group 1, Illinois Wing, Great Lakes Region of Civil Air Patrol. The Squadron is located on Scott Air Force Base and is the only Civil Air Patrol unit in the Illinois Wing to be located on an active-duty USAF facility. The squadron is part of Group 1 of the Illinois Wing of the Great Lakes Region, one of eight regions within the structure of Civil Air Patrol. Scott Composite Squadron along with our sister squadrons in Group 1 are available for emergency services missions for the southern portion of Illinois area as well as other nearby areas. In addition, Scott Composite Squadron has an excellent cadet and aerospace education program to serve our membership and the community. The squadron mascot (nickname) is the "Wildcards". The mascot name "Wildcards" came to a senior cadet that was looking for something to define, give meaning, and establish unit cohesiveness. The idea was inspired from the series Space Above and Beyond. The series is about 5 space marines that have to rely on one another to survive. In spite of making many mistakes, these marines carried out their missions displaying integrity, honor, and pride no matter what happened. The show also showed how people from all walks of life can be gathered ending in a strong force dedicated to what the uniform represents. Their unit was the 58th Fighter Wing "Wildcards". In the tradition of Civil Air Patrol, we consist of a wide variety of volunteers that must work together. We are willing to go above and beyond. |
