Operations Overview Civil Air Patrol Operations include our Emergency Services and Flying activities. The Emergency Services component is one of Civil Air Patrol’s charted missions. Civil Air Patrol provides 90 percent of the inland search and rescue for overdue aircraft within the United States. In addition, Emergency Services include such missions as homeland security exercises, disaster relief assistance, damage assessment, wildlife management, and other forms of ground and aerial reconnaissance or search activities. Members of Scott Composite Squadron have actively participated and continue to train in both ground and air disciplines of emergency services. This training encompasses Urban Direction Finding Teams, Ground Teams, Mission Scanners, Observers, Pilots, Radio Operators, and other mission base functions. This training is done locally, state wide, and at National training programs. Operations also include our commitment to providing our cadets the opportunity for flight orientation and training activities. Orientation flights are scheduled throughout the year, generally on a quarterly basis and are open to ALL cadets free of charge. In addition, during the summer months, National flight academies are available as well as Illinois Wing’s Johnson Flight Academy which provides flight training by Certified Flight Instructors in powered aircraft, gliders, and hot air balloons. Squadron pilots have the additional benefit of being able to use CAP aircraft for proficiency flying.
