Aerospace Education Officer Let me take a minute to introduce myself. I am 1LT Chuck Gillespie from the Scott Composite Squadron. As the Aerospace Education Officer (AEO) it is my exciting duty to teach Aerospace Education to our Cadets, Seniors (Adult Members), and to the Community. I vaguely remember the first landing on the moon. The magic and mystery of that moment may have contributed to my lifelong interest in aviation and space exploration. Since the moon had been conquered, my desire was to be the first man on Mars. We are still awaiting that decision from NASA. In the meantime, I have the pleasure of being one of the pilots for CAP and guiding others into aviation careers from ground control to outer space. On the third Thursday of every month, “It’s my show”. ALL (Cadets, Seniors, and Visitors) gather around to see what in the world will they be working on today. We have hands on activities with plenty of laughs and competitive spirit. If science was not your favorite subject, be warned these are not boring lectures. I think you will be amazed at how much science is out there and how easy and fun it can be. Previous classes have been on building your own simple hovercraft, a “dancing” balloon in mid-air, and activities on learning how to fly. Future areas of interest are radio control planes and rockets. Occasionally, we take trips into the aviation community like air traffic control towers. Come and look. As a visitor, you can participate the first night! Chuck Gillespie, 1LT, CAP Group 1 Aerospace Officer |
